Mark Gurman, 9to5Mac

Date Published: Nov 11 2015 11:30 AM

Mark Gurman’s bio over at Apple news site 9to5Mac.com reads that he’s a senior editor and that he’s been working there for around three-and-a-half years. What’s not in the bio is that he started working there as a high-schooler. Gurman recently finished up his freshman year at Michigan, finding time between classes to break Apple-related scoops without breaking a sweat. In a recent profile, Gurman told Business Insider that he’s not sure he’ll keep blogging in a professional capacity after college. That’d be a shame — the kid’s a natura Read More

Jenny Lawson, The Bloggess

Date Published: Nov 11 2015 10:49 AM

She’s been called dark, disturbing and laugh-out-loud funny — all of which is true. But beyond that, The Bloggess is a just a really talented writer. Think David Sedaris in hot rollers or Neil Gaiman if he liked to swear and had grown up in Texas with a father who was a professional taxidermist. What Jenny Lawson is not, is a typical mommy blogger. There are no humblebrag confessions about “that one time I let my kid have three Cheetos. Read More

Worthwhile Reading

Date Published: Nov 11 2015 10:46 AM

For years now, pundits have been knowingly declaring that blogging is dead, rendered irrelevant by alternative means of personal publishing such as Facebook and Twitter. The best way to quash that silly notion is to read scads of blogs, as we did to compile this story. Gifted bloggers are busy everywhere from their own hand-crafted sites to sites operated by major corporations, and their best work is at least as good as anything from the era when blogging was trendy rather than tried-and-true. Yaya Duv

Date Published: Nov 5 2015 10:10 AM

I kept on saying in my head “Shiiiiiit, sa Sabado na. Kaya ko kaya?” I need to be mentally and physically prepared; pag sinimulan ko na to, there’s no backing out. I told myself I can do it! I need to do it! This is what I want! Then it happened, last 4th of July, Dora the Explorer left for Africa and was replaced by her luxurious and snobbish grandmother named Nidora Explorer a.k.a Lola Dora along with her ‘alalay’ Divina Ursula Bokbokoba Smash a.k.a as Yaya Dub (Smash). Leave the Judgement Behind

Date Published: Oct 24 2015 5:37 AM

This past Sunday in Los Angeles, I spent a beautiful day with my Dad playing golf to celebrate his birthday. Although I was grateful to spend time with my Dad, the golf part was extremely frustrating. I hit a few great drives straight down the fairway, rolled a bunch of golf balls about twenty yards in front of the tee, and managed to successfully lose a lot of balls in the rough. Overall, I enjoyed very inconsistent results..... Read More

Why I Ditched My Smartphone

Date Published: Oct 22 2015 5:37 AM

“Respect yourself enough to walk away from anything that no longer serves you, grows you, or makes you happy.” – Robert Tew On March 7, 2014, I pulled the plug on my smartphone. It wasn’t that I didn’t like having it; if anything, I liked having it too much My phone was an extension of myself. I couldn’t go anywhere without it. At night I plugged it in on my nightstand when I went to bed, scrolling through Facebook one last time before tucking myself in. In the morning, I turned it on before my eyes were fully open.... Finding Your Purpose in Life

Date Published: Oct 18 2015 5:39 AM

OK. So you know how sometimes you’re driving home from work and you have to pull into the nearest parking lot so that you can punch the steering wheel a bunch of times and scream things about your work being meaningless, your job sucking wind, the utter hopelessness of facing 20 more years in that place, and maybe something about how such a bunch of idiots ended up in management positions? Oh…yeah. Me neither..... Read More

How My Chronic Illness Made Me a Better Man

Date Published: Oct 16 2015 7:00 PM

Health is something that we take for granted. Because we never fully understand its value until it’s gone, it often isn’t until we suffer some form of physical or mental breakdown that we realize just how valuable it is. But, sometimes, when we lose something so treasured, something much better is found. For me, when I lost my health, what I gained was a journey into discovering who I really am...... Read More
